The 8 day mountain biking in Bhutan covers 5 districts in western Bhutan. This includes Paro, Haa, Thimphu, Punakha, Wangdue Phodrang including Gangtey and Phobjikha valley. The route passes through mountains, valleys and some beautiful passes adorned with prayers flags. Mountain biking is a relatively new phenomenon in Bhutan but it’s gaining momentum among locals as well as majority of visitors.

The costs given below are inclusive of Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of US $ 100 per person per night and Bhutan visa fee US $ 40 per person.

The entrance fees for museums / monuments and festivals visits are be paid at the counter of each monument / museums and are not included in the cost.

Mountain Biking in Bhutan - Detailed Itinerary.

Your Guide will receive you at the Paro airport and drive to Thimphu.

On the way, view Tamchog Monastery built in the 15th century by Thang Tong Gyalpo.

In the afternoon, ride to:

– Memorial chorten (1974) built in honor of the Late King His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
– Tallest statue of Buddha to Sangay gang viewpoint (following the biking trail).

In the evening, visit to:

Tashichho Dzong, the royal secretariat and the seat of national government.

Then free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

After breakfast, ride to Cheri monastery returning via Kabesa village.

In the afternoon, witness Archery match at Changlimithang stadium and free to stroll in the town.

In the Morning, ride to Punakha. Today is the best part of your trip as the view is very scenic.

A short stop at Dochu la pass (3140 m) with its 108 stupas with amazing view of the Himalayas.

Chimi Lhakhang built in 1499 by Lama Drukpa Kuenley, popularly known as “The Divine Madman”. This Temple is also known as “The Temple of fertility”.

After lunch, visit to:

Punakha Dzong built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Punakha is the winter residence of Je Khenpo and King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck convened the first national assembly here in 1952.
– Ride to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Choling monastery.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

In the morning, ride to Gangtey.

A short stop on the way to view Wangdue Phodrang Dzong built in 1638 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

– Visit Gangtey Gompa (Venue for Gangtey festival) founded in 1613 by Gyaltse Pema Thinley.

After lunch, visit the crane information center.

In the evening, explore Phobjikha valley, the roosting ground of the Rare Black necked cranes in winter.

In the morning, ride to Thimphu. We occasionally stop on the way to take pictures.

In the Morning, ride to Cheli la pass.

This pass separates Paro from Haa valley with the highest motorable road in Bhutan at 3810 meters above sea level. You can see the beautiful view of the higher Himalayas including Mt. Jomolhari.

After lunch, ride to Drugyel Dzong (18 km from Paro town).

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

In the morning, hike to the Tiger’s nest monastery (Paro Taktsang).

– 2 hour walk till the monastery. The primary temple was built around Guru Rinpoche’s meditation cave in the 1684 by Gyaltse Tenzin Rabgay.  Guru Rinpoche, the tantric mystic who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, flew here on the back of a flying tiger, Dorji Drolo, said to be his favorite consort.
