Punakha Festival

Punakha Festival 2022.

12 – 14 March 2022 | Venue: Punakha Dzong, Punakha.

The Punakha festival is held for three days at the courtyard of majestic Punakha Dzong to honor Guru Rimpoche. This is one of the three biggest festivals held in western Bhutan. The other two being the festivals in Paro and Thimphu which are equally spectacular. The people come from far and near to witness the festival and get blessed. It is also time for prayer and family get together. The Local folks sing and dance dressed in colorful costumes. The festival ends with a throngdroel ceremony.

Sketch Itinerary for Punakha Festival:

Day 1. Arrive Paro – Thimphu sightseeing (Distance 54 km, 1 hr drive).

Day 2. Thimphu Sightseeing.

Day 3. Thimphu – Gangtey (128 kms, 4 hrs. drive).

Day 4. Gangtey – Punakha festival (75 kms, 1 ½ hrs.).

Day 5. Punakha Festival – excursion to Talo monastery.

Day 6. Punakha Festival.

Day 7. Punakha – Paro sightseeing (Distance 132 km, Drive Time 3 hours).

Day 8. Paro Sightseeing – Hike to the Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang).

Day 9. Paro – Departure.
