The Ura Festival is an annual event held at Ura temple and is known for its famous dance, Ura Yakchoe. Hence it is also called Ura Yakchoe festival. A sacred relic is displayed for people to receive blessings. According to legend, an old woman was visited by a lama asking for a glass of water. When she came out to offer water, the lama had vanished leaving behind only a sack. As she checked the sack, she found a revered statue that is now displayed annually at the Ura festival. This relic has been passed on from generation to generations and owned by the descendants of the woman till today.
Ura Festival Itinerary:
Day 01. Arrive Paro and sightseeing.
Day 02. Paro – Bumthang (Flight to Bumthang).
Day 03. Bumthang – Ura Festival (51 km One way).
Day 04. Bumthang – Excursion to Ogen Choling palace.
Day 05. Bumthang – Trongsa – Gangtey (146 km – 5 hour drive).
Day 06. Gangtey – Punakha (75 km – 2 hour drive).
Day 07. Punakha – Thimphu (76 km – 2 ½ hour drive).
Day 08. Thimphu Sightseeing.
Day 09. Thimphu – Paro (56 km, 1 hour drive).
Day 10. Paro – Departure.
