Travel to Bhutan where centuries old traditions blend harmoniously with modern times to create a fairytale realm like no other. Over the years, Bhutan has generated a lot of interest on varying subjects of which perhaps our institution of monarchy, our spiritual values, our democracy that was thrust upon us, our development philosophy of Gross National Happiness and, our unique culture that’s thriving, our prominence as the only carbon neutral country in the world and our distinction as one of the Top 10 global hotspot for biodiversity.

Some of our stories, small as they may be, are unprecedented, and have all the ingredients to inspire others in a big, big way.

Yes, Bhutan is a country like no other. It is unique, it is different, and it is truly inspiring and fascinating.

Below is the list of top places to visit in Bhutan. Being a mountainous and landlocked country, most of the destinations are located in the small fertile valleys surrounded by the snow capped mountains and hills adorned with beautiful stupas called chortens. The colorful prayer flags fluttering the hills and mountain tops are a common sight which is believed to spread the mantras of peace and tranquility to the sentient beings. The occasional sounds of the gongs and cymbals interrupt the quietness of these valleys.

A-brief-description-of-BhutanAs you travel from the Western part of the country to the East, you will discover that each of these valleys has its own beauty and uniqueness and keep you charmed during your entire travel. Most travelers choose to travel covering Paro, Haa Valley, Thimphu, Punakha, Wangduephodrang (Gangtey/Phobjikha valley), Trongsa and Bumthang.  Some tourists visiting Bhutan still choose to travel to the Eastern part of Bhutan which has its own charm.

Booking Bhutan Tour

Any enthusiastic traveler intending to  visit  and travel to Bhutan must and can only travel on an all inclusive packaged tour, for which there is a fixed tariff set by the Tourism Council of Bhutan. This tariff or fee actually includes just about everything needed for you as a traveler , and that includes your accommodation, all meals and transportation within the country for your entire course of stay. Plus a tour guide and driver, sightseeing and entrance fees at all places.

  • Tours must always be booked through a licensed Bhutanese Tour Operator or a Travel Agent and the entire arrangement will be made by the same travel agent. Customization, personalization and flexibility are always assured.
  • Clients traveling at peak seasons and festivals do need to book their tours at least 2 ½ months in advance. Because of the high altitude, the airlines that operate and land in Bhutan are smaller with lesser seat capacity and rather not like the massive ones that you may be familiar with.

Bhutan Visa Formalities and Procedures

Indians, Bangladeshis and Maldivians have the exemption to travel to Bhutan with just a permit, which can be availed from the immigration department at the port of entry, while all other nationals visiting Bhutan need visas.

All other tourists must obtain a visa clearance prior to their travel to Bhutan. The visas are processed by your Bhutanese tour operator, directly or through a foreign travel agent.

Visa Requirements

All that is required is for you to send the photo page of your passport to your tour operator who will then apply for your visa. Please don’t forget to bring the same passport of which you sent the photo page. The visa will be processed in  the Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) once the full payment of your holiday (including a USD $40 visa fee) has been transferred and received in the TCB bank account. Once the payment has been made through,  the visa clearance will be processed within 72 working hours. It may seem complicated on the face of it but it actually works out very nice and smooth. A visa clearance letter is then issued but the actual visa is stamped on your passport when you land in Bhutan. So you actually need to bring in the “visa clearance letter” which will be emailed to you by the Tour Operator when you travel to Bhutan.

Our Reviews from Past Clients

Memorable trip to Bhutan – made easy with Yak Holidays

Everything was taken care of by Yak Holidays, We were in Bhutan in March for a 12 days vacation in Bhutan. We saw everything we wanted to. Because it was just my wife and I if we wanted to change the itinerary it was no problem. Our guide Mandhoj and driver Yuda were wonderful.

I have no idea how Yuda drove through those mountain passes with Yaks, dogs, rocks, cows, horses, landslides etc almost every step of the way. Mandhoj is an amazing man, his English was great as was his Spanish- he is a passionate guide, and extremely knowledgeable. All of the hotels were good, and all of the stops worthwhile.

My trip to Bhutan was an amazing adventure.

I was greeted with warmth upon arrival at the Paro International Airport and my guide and driver were fun to be with. My Bhutan itinerary was bountiful and flexible which was great as some of the visits were quite quick. I very much enjoyed the temples and the vast history. My guide was very knowledgeable!

I was also greeted by Mr Sithar, the owner of the company, who came out to meet me in person. This was such a lovely gesture. I highly recommend a Bhutan trip with Yak Holidays Int’l. and I know that I will be back to Bhutan with them to see more of this amazing country.
