The Chorten kora tshechu festival is the most popular annual event in eastern Bhutan. ‘Kora’ means circumambulation. The biggest activity of the festival is circumambulating the Chorten Kora temple. It also attracts people from the neighboring Indian state of Arunachal culture and nearby districts. The festival highlights are such as mask dances, the rich textiles and brocades worn by the locals and the triumphant atmosphere of the festival itself.

Detailed Itinerary.

Your guide will receive you at the Paro International Airport and drive to the Hotel.

After lunch, visit Ta dzong, the national museum of Bhutan. Then visit Rinpung dzong built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.

In the morning, drive to the airport and fly to Bumthang. After lunch, visit to Jakar dzong built in 1667 by Nagi Wangchuk. Visit Jambay lhakhang built by King Srongtsen Gampo of Tibet in the year 659 AD. Tamshing lhakhang (Temple of the good message), established in 1501 by Pema Lingpa. Finally visit Kurjey lhakhang, where you can see the body print of Guru Rinpoche and Kencho Sum lhakhang. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

In the morning, drive to Tang valley. On the way, visit Mebar Tsho or “The burning lake” . The Terton Pema Lingpa discovered the treasures here hidden by Guru Rinpoche in the 14th century.

While in Tang valley, visit Ogen Choling palace museum.

In the evening, drive back to Bumthang.

In the morning, drive to Bumthang. Lunch will be served on the way. We take a short break stop at Thrumsing la pass (3780 m) mid way to Mongar.

On the way, visit Jarung Khashor chorten located in Lingmethang next to the bridge over the Kuri chu river.

After breakfast, visit to Mongar dzong. Then drive to Trashigang. A short stop at Korila pass, mid way to Trashigang.

After early breakfast, drive towards Trashi Yangtse to witness Chorten Kora Festival 2025. Packed lunch will be served. In the evening, drive back to Trashigang.

After breakfast visit to Gomphu Kora chorten, in Trashi Yangtse.

Afternoon back to Trashigang. In the evening, explore Trashigang town.

In the morning, drive to Mongar. On the way, visit to Buddhist college at Kilikhar village, 5 km from Mongar town.

After lunch, explore the local market in Mongar town.

After breakfast, drive to Bumthang. Lunch will be served on the way. A short stop at Thrumsing la pass (3780 m), mid way to Bumthang.

After breakfast, drive to Gangtey. On the way, visit to Ta dzong, royal heritage museum. Then visit Trongsa dzong, the ancient seat of power of the Wangchuck dynasty.

After lunch, drive further to Gangtey. While in Gangtey, visit crane information center.

In the evening, explore Phobjikha valley, the roosting ground of the rare black- necked cranes in winter.

In the morning, drive to the beautiful Punakha valley. On the way, visit Gangtey Gompa monastery founded in 1613 by Gyaltse Pema Thinley.

Then visit Wangdue Phodrang dzong built in 1638 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Finally we visit Chimi Lhakhang “The temple of fertility” built in 1499 to honor Drukpa Kuenley (The divine madman). He travelled throughout Bhutan and Tibet using songs and humor to spread his teachings of salvation through sex.

After lunch, visit Punakha dzong built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Punakha is the winter residence of Je Khenpo, the chief abbot of Bhutan. King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck convened the first national assembly here in 1952.

In the evening, hike to the beautiful Khamsum Yulley monastery (short hike of 45 minutes).

After breakfast, drive to Thimphu. On the way, visit Dochula pass with 108 stupas and also enjoy the view of higher Himalayas.

After lunch at Dochula, visit the weekend vegetable market and witness archery match at Changlimithang stadium.

In the morning, visit national postal museum, national memorial chorten, tallest statue of Buddha and Changangkha lhakhang. Then visit Takin preserve center, Sangay gang view point and Dupthop nunnery. After lunch, visit folk heritage museum and painting school (The school of 13 arts and crafts). In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.

In the morning, drive to Paro. On the way, visit Tamchog monastery built by Thang Tong Gyalpo in 1420. He built 108 bridges across Tibet and Bhutan, out of which 8 were built in Bhutan. His only surviving bridge is in Duksum (Tashi Yangtse in eastern Bhutan).

Then hike to the Tiger’s nest monastery (Paro Taktsang). This trail is also a part of the beautiful Bumdra trek. (It is a main highlight of 11 days Bhutan tour).

After lunch, visit Drugyal dzong built in 1647 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Then visit Kichu lhakhang built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan King Srongtsen Gampo. He built 108 temples in a single day to pin the ogress to the earth forever.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.
