March, April & May are the best time to visit Bhutan. There is a riot of colors, of resilient greenery and vast blue skies. These months also feature colorful cultural festivals. You could go on short day hikes or just wander around soaking in the many beauties of the land. These spring months lift your spirits and if you’re seeking some insights into the Buddhist way of life, you will possibly want a reflective moment or two.

Visiting Bhutan in June, July and August – Summer:

It brings monsoon showers and is less predictable for long travel in Bhutan. The days remain bright but could suddenly give way to light showers. Sometimes, a late monsoon may spare the month of June from showers which would mean the best time to visit Bhutan. Moreover, these months fall inside the non peak season. You could take a chance for day hikes in the warm weather.

Autumn season (September, October and November)  is another best time to visit Bhutan. It is the much sought after peak season spell for visitors wanting to explore Bhutan’s hinterlands. To trek further up into the Himalayas or hike across its easy but undulated trails. The season has many magical cultural festivals in each calendar year. From religious mask dance festivals to traditional folk culture, the country becomes a great cultural bazaar. If you are a photographer, then visit to Bhutan is a must.

Bhutan visit in December, January and February – Winter:

Travel to Bhutan in winter (December, January and February) is of great interest to the nature lovers and photographers. The weather is not harsh in Bhutan and the cold is beatable. Also the days are sunny and the countryside is a little quiet. The high mountain passes receive a good amount of snowfall, but the lower altitudes remain fairly navigable. This means no trekking in the highlands, but you could go for short day hikes. You could visit most cultural sites and interact with the locals for a deeper understanding of their lives and culture. You could also travel to the beautiful Gangtey and Phobjikha valley to see the elegant black necked cranes in their roosting grounds. These migratory, endangered birds fly into

When is the best time to visit Bhutan - FAQs.

The best month to visit Bhutan is April as the weather will be perfect, clear blue sky, warm sunny days and the valleys and mountains will look colorful with blooming wild flowers.

July is certainly not the best time to visit Bhutan because of rain and weather condition. However, the monsoon is short in Bhutan unlike in the Indian plains where it rains for days and days.

The best time to visit Bhutan to witness the festival in Bhutan is March, April and November.

The best time to visit Bhutan to see the rare black-necked cranes is mid November to end of March. You can see these cranes in the beautiful Phobjikha valley in central Bhutan bordering the Black mountain range.

If you are a photographer and wish to photograph landscapes, then December is the best time to visit Bhutan.

The rafting and kayaking are done in Pho chu river in Punakha. June to September is the best time to visit Bhutan for adventure sports like rafting and kayaking as the volume of water in the river will be high.
